You wrote this post on the day I separated from my husband. I had no concern about Valentine's Day other than it would be the first one in ten years that I'd be alone. Hubby on the other hand would be taking his girlfriend to a hockey game (with our season tickets) so he'd be fine.

"I do believe if you are truly in love and you let that person know everyday that they are focus in your life, then you don’t need a card and box of chocolates to prove it."

You are correct!

I know that Sylvanus loves me.. he proves it to me everyday. Valentine's Day is not about him getting me anything. In fact.. of he didn't get me anything I would be ok with that.. Valentine's day is a celebration of love for us... so the important part is spending that day together and having a wonderful evening dining on good food and fabulous conversations.

I hope one day, Valentine's Day will be what it's supposed to be for you.

I'm not saying little gifts and tokens of love aren't appropriate but if you only get them when the calendar tells you, you wonder how heartfelt they really are.

I have one really memorable Valentine's Day with Ex. It was when we first started going out. He made me dinner - crepes. He followed the recipe to the T and he did a really good job. I was proud of him and I appreciated the effort. The "last" Valentine's Day (2008), I got him tickets to his favorite band, Radiohead. When the concert came around in May, he was gone, and neither of us went. Funny how things come full circle.
As for flowers, Ex sent me flowers for almost every occasion, but to be honest, I thought they were kinda of thoughtless at some point. An easy way out, so he didn't have to put "thought" into things the way I did. I hope you aren't feeling like you missed something there.
This will be my first Valentine's Day as Single Gal. Should be interesting.

The other secretary here gets roses every so often from her boyfriend. 11 White and 1 Red. I can only think about how much that must have cost and wondering what he did wrong to justify that. Ok, I'm cynical.
